How to Fix HP Printer Code 20 on Your Windows System

HP Printer Error 20 is one of the most common printer errors that Windows PCs can suffer from. It’s caused by the HP printer on your PC not being properly configured – leading Windows to be unable to use it correctly. Although this error is very common, it’s actually simple to fix, if you’re able to use a specific method that repairs the various problems that cause it to show in the first place.

The error message you see will often appear like this:

“Printer not activated – Error code 20″

In order to get this error to disappear, you need to make your HP Printer work on your computer. To do this, you need to ensure your printer is connected to your PC, you have the correct driver for it and that it’s set as the default printer.

The first thing you need to do to fix this error is to ensure that your HP printer is set as the “default” printer for your PC. It’s often the case that this printer will not be set as the default, and will consequently lead Windows to be unable to process it whenever you need to print something. To set this printer as default, click onto Start > Control Panel > Printers & Faxes and then right-click your HP printer & set it as default. This might stop the error from showing, but probably won’t.

After you’ve done that, you then need to update the driver for the “USB Composite Device” on your system. This is the technical name of the USB port your Printer might be connected to, and by reinstalling the driver for it, you should allow Windows to read the files it requires to run. To do this, simply load up the “Device manager” of your PC and select the USB composite device. Uninstall it, and then allow it to install again automatically.

Finally, you should clean out the registry of your system to ensure there are no damaged parts of it that are causing the HP Error Code 20. The registry is a large internal database that Windows uses to store all the files, settings & information it requires to run, and is a very important part of your system. Unfortunately, this part of your computer is constantly being damaged and corrupted, leading to many different errors (including error 20). You can fix this by using a registry cleaner to scan through this database and repairing any of the errors that are inside it.
