LG Magnit 136-inch 4K DVLED TV

LG MAGNIT 136-inch Micro LED 4K TV Display Unveiled: CEDIA 2022

Imagine thinking that an 85″ 8K TV isn’t large enough for your living room. LG Electronics have unveiled the LG MAGNIT 4K 136-inch Micro LED Residential Display (LSAD Series) at CEDIA 2022 and the price tag is going to leave you somewhat deflated.

$300,000 USD will put this TV wall in your living room and we suspect LG will sell more than a few of these.

TV technology has exploded. OLED is gaining wider consumer acceptance and there is continuing innovation in LCD TVs (QLED, MiniLED, and Dual Cell). QD-OLED TVs have successfully debuted this year with sets from Samsung and Sony. Also, the UST (Ultra Short Throw projector) category has really taken off, offering 100 inch and larger screen sizes at somewhat reasonable prices. However, if you have a lot of cash to spare, those may not be your only choice.

Direct View LED (DVLED)

Another technology that is making an impact in business applications and beginning to be released for home use is DVLED (Direct View LED or Direct View Light Emitting Diode). This includes video display products that use MircoLED and near-MicroLED self-emitting diodes.

The LG DVLED product line includes its MAGNIT Series MicroLED displays as well as additional near-MicroLED displays. Their home product line is labeled DVLED Extreme Home Cinema

Tip: “near-MicroLED”, means that the LEDs are too large to be labeled MicroLEDs but are smaller than MiniLED backlight elements.

Unlike LEDs and mini LEDs used as backlights in LCD-based TVs, DVLEDs are self-emissive (similar to OLED) and display light, color, and image content directly. No LCD panel is required for the image display.

The LG 136-inch 4K MAGNIT Micro LED TV

Just as with LG’s smart TVs, the 136-inch MAGNIT model incorporates the webOS smart TV platform, popular streaming apps, screen sharing, and AI-enhanced processing.

The 136-inch Micro LED display incorporates LG’s α (Alpha) 9 AI Processor that uses deep learning technology to reduce picture noise and optimize saturation and contrast based on room conditions. It’s also designed to enhance the clarity and legibility of faces and text, while an ambient light sensor adjusts brightness and tone mapping to maintain optimal appearance in varying lighting conditions.

LG has included a lot of the same features it offers on its LED/LCD and OLED TVs including screen share through AirPlay 2 and Miracast protocols that allow content from any iOS, Android, macOS, or Windows 10 device to be displayed.

The LG MAGNIT 4K 136-inch display also provides a dedicated mobile app that will allow users to load digital art directly onto the display. A collage feature in the app will enable owners to display a wall full of their personal photos that can be sized and adjusted as desired.

The display puts out 2,000 nits of peak brightness to deliver better performance and visibility even in rooms with higher ambient light. 2,000 nits of light output also provides the foundation for good HDR performance.

Physical connection options include 4 HDMI inputs, Ethernet/LAN, digital audio out, two USB ports, and an RS232C control port.

The display’s 120 Hz frame rate ensures smooth playback of fast-moving visuals such as sports or action content.

The new LG Micro LED display is a premium product available in the United States exclusively through specially-certified LG distribution partners (more info coming soon). The stated price for the 136-inch model shown at CEDIA is $299,999.00. Yes, you read that right – this “TV” will cost you 6 figures before taxes!

Tip: The DVLED Extreme Home Cinema line features multiple models and sizes including a gigantic 325-inch 8K display.

LG and Bang & Olufsen

LG has collaborated with Bang & Olufsen to bundle their flagship Beolab 90 floorstanding loudspeakers as the preferred sound system for LG MAGNIT 4K 136-inch display when sold through Bang & Olufsen stores.  The bundle price is expected to be $349,999.00. The bundle availability date has not been announced as the posting date of this article.

The LG Magnit 136-inch display also can be paired with Bang & Olufsen’s other home theater loudspeakers including the “less expensive” Beolab 50 and 28 models  (presumably for less cost).

Now, all you need is enough wall space, a lot of cash, a nice new comfortable couch, a popcorn popper, and a home bar and you are set to go.
